My name is Ryan, I am a student at University City High School, San Diego learning about Software Defined Radio. I have done projects including reverse engineering grocery store anti theft systems, decoding GOES weather satellite data, and making a system for hunting weather balloons (Radiosondes) about which I am currently being published in the QEX amateur radio magazine.
While developing a system that could track and predict where the weather balloons (radiosondes) would land, I researched, built and tested many different L-Band bandpass filters, antennas, Low noise amplifiers and software defined radio's to find the optimal and still inexpensive combination. After building the hardware I utilized available programs to decode and make use of the processed data. Using this system I was able to recover two Radiosondes after they were launched, rose to the edge of space and came plummeting down.
including decoding the Landsat imaging satellites', building radios for decentralized wireless internet networks and designing inexpensive equipment that my fellow researches can utilize and experiment with.
To peruse these projects I need to be able to utilize the frequency conversion and signal generation capabilities of a moRFeus. In addition a PortaPack for my HackRF would greatly assist me in using the radio in the field where enlisting the use of a laptop is often hindering.
